Brings me to another interesting story. I was in Vancouver, BC last week and having problems accessing my internet, so I called our 800 # for the help-desk (rings in Hyderabad or Bangalore).
A bo-beep answers the call and I tell her I am in ...BC and here is the conversation that transpires as she looked up my details on the company blue pages - it is a true story and I was there.
"so where is BC? Howsston or Dullas?"
"NO! its in Canada"
"Is Kanada in Howsston, if so, what state?"
"Miss, BC is a Province of Canada, they do not have States"
"OK, so you are not in the United States"
"NO! I am at a client site in Canada"
"ok, so if you are at a link site, and not in North America, I will have to transfer you to Level2 support"
after some silence, a L2 Doo-Dah gets on the line and asks me to do a config/release and config/renew - aahh! I had done that several times before making my 800 call.
"so Sir, can you see Google"
"NO! I have a problem with some setting on my Thinkpad that I need help with, can you help me validate these settings"
"Sir, I will first have to verify your id"
"OK, bhaijee, can we get on with the show, I am at a client site working with our web-based products and don't have the time to futtz around"
"yes Sir, I have posted the solution on our intranet and it will be available for 3 days" hear the click as the phone goes dead.
You think Houston has a problem! Hyderabad had a bigger problem - the solution is posted on the intranet for 3 days, can someone tell me how I get to it, if I cannot access the internet from my Thinkpad in the first place.
Fortunately, I futtz around with the settings and got my intranet to work. So I corrected some of the errors in the ticket - I am not in Birthis Colombo, I am in British Colombia which is not in Dallas, but still happens to be in North America.
